Cutting compound used for compounding and the removal of orange peel or surfaces, restores
dull or chalked surfaces to gloss. Application is usually by machine buff.
"gloss restorer", "machine buff cutting compound"
Harmful if swallowed.
Irritating to skin.
May cause SENSITIZATION by skin contact.
Possible risk of impaired fertility.
HARMFUL - May cause lung damage if swallowed.
Harmful: danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure through
inhalation.
Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation.
Accidental ingestion of the material may be harmful; animal experiments indicate that ingestion of less than 150 gram may be fatal or may produce serious damage to the health of the individual. Considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial/industrial environments. Ingestion may result in nausea, pain, vomiting. Vomit entering the lungs by aspiration may cause potentially lethal chemical pneumonitis.
There is some evidence to suggest that this material can causeeye irritation and damage in some persons.
This material can cause inflammation of the skin oncontact in some persons. Skin contact is not thought to have harmful health effects, however the material may still produce health damage following entry through wounds, lesions or abrasions. Open cuts, abraded or irritated skin should not be exposed to this material. Toxic effects may result from skin absorption. The material may accentuate any pre-existing dermatitis condition.
Inhalation may produce health damage*. The material is not thought to produce respiratory irritation (as classified using animal models). Nevertheless inhalation of the material, especially for prolonged periods, may produce respiratory discomfort and occasionally, distress. Inhalation of high concentrations of gas/vapor causes lung irritation with coughing and nausea, central nervous depression with headache and dizziness, slowing of reflexes, fatigue and inco-ordination.
Skin contact with the material is more likely to cause a sensitization reaction in some persons compared to the general population. Ample evidence from experiments exists that there is a suspicionthis material directly reduces fertility.
Principal routes of exposure are usually by skin contact and inhalation of generated dust. Prolonged or continuous skin contact with the liquid may cause defatting with drying, cracking, irritation and dermatitis following. Chronic solvent inhalation exposures may result in nervous system impairment and liver and blood changes. [PATTYS]. One ingredient of the product has caused skin sensitization reactions, shown as localized reddening and hives, or may produce respiratory sensitization characterized by asthma- like symptoms and runny nose. Chronic symptoms of quartz inhalation include decreased vital lung capacity and chest infections. Chronic exposure may cause silicosis, a disabling form of pneumoconiosis (accumulation of dust in the lungs - confirmable by X-ray), which leads to fibrosis (scarring of the lining of the air sacs in the lungs) Note that quartz is a hazard as respirable dust only, not whilst held in emulsion.
