Contact with combustible material may cause fire.
Toxic if swallowed.
Very toxic by inhalation.
Irritating to eyes.
Very toxic to aquatic organisms.
Toxic effects may result from the accidental ingestion of the material; animal experiments indicate that ingestion of less than 40 gram may be fatal or may produce serious damage to the health of the individual. Considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial/industrial environments.
This material can cause eye irritation and damage in some persons. The material may be irritating to the eye, with prolonged contact causing inflammation. Repeated or prolonged exposure to irritants may produce conjunctivitis.
The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or skin irritation following contact (as classified using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable gloves be used in an occupational setting. Sensitization may result in allergic dermatitis responses includingrash, itching, hives or swelling of extremities.
There is some evidence to suggest that this material, if inhaled, can irritate the throat and lungs of some persons.
Principal routes of exposure are by accidental skin and eye contact andinhalation of generated dusts. Under certain conditions, nitrites can interact with secondary amines either alone or in biological systems to form nitrosamines which have been shown to be carcinogenic in animals.
