Section 1 - CHEMICAL PRODUCT AND COMPANY IDENTIFICATION

PRODUCT NAME

WATTYL DIMET AMERCOAT 70 PART A MARINE ANTI FOULING

NFPA

Flammability 2
Toxicity 3
Body Contact 2
Reactivity 0
Chronic 3
SCALE: Min/Nil=0 Low=1 Moderate=2 High=3 Extreme=4

PRODUCT USE

Application is usually by spray atomisation after viscosity reduction with thinner. The
use of a quantity of material in an unventilated or confined space may result in increased
exposure and an irritating atmosphere developing. Before starting consider control of
exposure by mechanical ventilation. Copper based, tin containing anti- fouling coating for
use on vessels operating in seawater.

SYNONYMS

"copper oxide TBTO Tin Anti fouling", "tin based antifouling"

Section 2 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW

RISK

Harmful in contact with skin.
Toxic if swallowed.
May cause CANCER.
May cause SENSITIZATION by skin contact.
Possible risk of harm to the unborn child.
HARMFUL - May cause lung damage if swallowed.
Toxic: danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure through
inhalation and if swallowed.
Irritating to eyes and skin.
Flammable.
Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation.
Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long- term adverse effects in the
aquatic environment.

POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS

ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS

SWALLOWED

Toxic effects may result from the accidental ingestion of the material; animal experiments indicate that ingestion of less than 40 gram may be fatal or may produce serious damage to the health of the individual. Not a likely route of entry into the body in commercial or industrial environments. The liquid may produce considerable gastrointestinal discomfort and be harmful or toxic if swallowed. Ingestion may cause nausea, pain and vomiting. Vomit entering the lungs by aspiration can cause inflammation of the lungs, which can lead to death.

EYE

This material can cause eye irritation and damage in some persons. The liquid may produce eye discomfort and is capable of causing temporary impairment of vision and/or transient eye inflammation, ulceration. The material may produce severe irritation to the eye causing pronounced inflammation. Repeated or prolonged exposure to irritants may produce conjunctivitis.

SKIN

Skin contact with the material may be harmful; systemic effects may resultfollowing absorption. This material can cause inflammation of the skin oncontact in some persons. Toxic effects may result from skin absorption. Bare unprotected skin should not be exposed to this material. The material may accentuate any pre-existing skin condition. The material may cause skin irritation after prolonged or repeated exposure and may produce on contact skin redness, swelling, the production of vesicles, scaling and thickening of the skin.

INHALED

The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or irritation of the respiratory tract (as classified using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable control measures be used in an occupational setting. Inhalation hazard is increased at higher temperatures. Inhalation of high concentrations of gas/vapor causes lung irritation with coughing and nausea, central nervous depression with headache and dizziness, slowing of reflexes, fatigue and inco-ordination. If exposure to highly concentrated solvent atmosphere is prolonged this may lead to narcosis, unconsciousness, even coma and possible death.

CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS

Skin contact with the material is more likely to cause a sensitization reaction in some persons compared to the general population. There is ample evidence that this material can be regarded as being able to cause cancer in humans based on experiments and other information.
Considered toxic by all exposure routes. Principal routes of exposure are usually by skin contact/absorption and inhalation of vapor/spray mist. As with any chemical product, contact with unprotected bare skin; inhalation of vapor, mist or dust in work place atmosphere; or ingestion in any form, should be avoided by observing good occupational work practice.
