Household and janitorial cleaning and scouring bleach agent. · Material is mixed and used
in accordance with manufacturers directions. CARE: Use of a quantity of this material in
confined space or poorly ventilated area, where rapid build up of concentrated atmosphere
may occur, could require increased ventilation and/or protective gear.
"Abrasive scouring cleaner", "Scouring powder"
Contact with water liberates toxic gas.
Contact with acids liberates toxic gas.
Risk of serious damage to eyes.
Dangerous for the ozone layer.
Harmful to aquatic organisms, may cause long- term adverse effects in the
aquatic environment.
Although ingestion is not thought to produce harmful effects, the material may still be damaging to the health of the individual following ingestion, especially where pre- existing organ (e.g. liver, kidney) damage is evident. Present definitions of harmful or toxic substances are generally based on doses producing mortality (death) rather than those producing morbidity (disease, ill-health). Gastrointestinal tract discomfort may produce nausea and vomiting. In an occupational setting however, ingestion of insignificant quantities is not thought to be cause for concern. Considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial/industrial environments. Ingestion may result in nausea, abdominal irritation, pain and vomiting.
If applied to the eyes, this material causes severe eye damage. The material may produce severe irritation to the eye causing pronounced inflammation. Repeated or prolonged exposure to irritants may produce conjunctivitis.
The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or skin irritation following contact (as classified using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable gloves be used in an occupational setting. Irritation and skin reactions are possible with sensitive skin. Bare unprotected skin should not be exposed to this material. The material may accentuate any pre-existing skin condition. The material may cause skin irritation after prolonged or repeated exposure and may produce on contact skin redness, swelling, the production of vesicles, scaling and thickening of the skin.
The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or irritation of the respiratory tract (as classified using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable control measures be used in an occupational setting.
There is some evidence that inhaling this product is more likely to cause a sensitization reaction in some persons compared to the general population.
Principal routes of exposure are usually by inhalation of generated dust and skin contact with the dry and wet material. The material is particularly irritating to moist or abraded skin. Chlorine evolved from decomposition when wet is a respiratory irritant, may be corrosive and in high concentrations may be toxic. In enclosed areas where inhalation of high levels of vapour may occur this may cause upper respiratory tract irritation. A severe acute exposure may show delayed effects including shortness of breath, violent headaches, and in extreme pulmonary oedema and pneumonia. As small amounts of chlorine gas are evolved during normal use, ensure adequate ventilation of the work area.
