Photographic colour developer. Part B concentrate of a kit.
"photographic chemical", "colour developer", "Ektacolour⁄ Ecktacolour⁄
Ectacolour⁄ Ecktacolor"
Harmful if swallowed.
Causes burns.
Risk of serious damage to eyes.
May cause SENSITIZATION by skin contact.
Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long- term adverse effects in the
aquatic environment.
Accidental ingestion of the material may be harmful; animal experiments indicate that ingestion of less than 150 gram may be fatal or may produce serious damage to the health of the individual. The material can produce chemical burns within the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract following ingestion. The liquid is. discomforting. to the gastrointestinal tract. and may be. harmful. Considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial/industrial environments.
The material can produce chemical burns to the eye following direct contact. Vapors or mists may be extremely irritating. If applied to the eyes, this material causes severe eye damage. The liquid is discomforting. to the eyes. and may be. harmful. The material may produce severe irritation to the eye causing pronounced inflammation. Repeated or prolonged exposure to irritants may produce conjunctivitis.
The material can produce chemical burns following direct contactwith the skin. The liquid is mildly discomforting. and. harmful. to the skin. and may cause. allergic skin reactions. which may lead to dermatitis. Sensitization may result in allergic dermatitis responses includingrash, itching, hives or swelling of extremities. The material may cause skin irritation after prolonged or repeated exposure and may produce on contact skin redness, swelling, the production of vesicles, scaling and thickening of the skin.
If inhaled, this material can irritate the throat andlungs of some persons. The vapor/mist is. discomforting. and. harmful. to the upper respiratory tract. The material may produce respiratory tract irritation, and result in damage to the lung including reduced lung function.
Skin contact with the material is more likely to cause a sensitization reaction in some persons compared to the general population.
Principal routes of exposure are usually by skin and eye contact. The p-phenylene derivative acts as a sensitizer, causing a specific immune response in some people. Once sensitization has occurred, renewed exposure to the sensitizer may lead to the development of a skin rash, inflammation or an asthmatic condition; a reaction which in some individuals can be extremely severe. Persons who are sensitized to a particular substance should not be further exposed to that substance. In the literature there are no reports of the long term exposure health effects of this substance on workers. No comprehensive long term exposure studies have been conducted for humans or animals.
