Hardener or Part B of a 2 pack styrene polyester system. Operators should be trained in
procedures for safe use of this material. Requires that the two parts be mixed by hand or
mixer before use, in accordance with manufacturers directions. Mix only as much as is
required. Do not return the mixed material to the original containers. The use of a
quantity of material in an unventilated or confined space may result in increased exposure
and an irritating atmosphere developing. Before starting consider control of exposure by
mechanical ventilation.
"Thixotropic benzoyl dibenzoyl peroxide paste polyester resin catalyst", "free radical
initiator source diaroyl peroxide"
Contact with combustible material may cause fire.
Irritating to eyes.
May cause SENSITIZATION by skin contact.
Although ingestion is not thought to produce harmful effects, the material may still be damaging to the health of the individual following ingestion, especially where pre- existing organ (e.g. liver, kidney) damage is evident. Present definitions of harmful or toxic substances are generally based on doses producing mortality (death) rather than those producing morbidity (disease, ill-health). Gastrointestinal tract discomfort may produce nausea and vomiting. In an occupational setting however, ingestion of insignificant quantities is not thought to be cause for concern. Considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial/industrial environments. Ingestion may result in nausea, abdominal irritation, pain and vomiting.
This material can cause eye irritation and damage in some persons. The material may be irritating to the eye, with prolonged contact causing inflammation. Repeated or prolonged exposure to irritants may produce conjunctivitis.
The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or skin irritation following contact (as classified using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable gloves be used in an occupational setting. Irritation and skin reactions are possible with sensitive skin. Bare unprotected skin should not be exposed to this material. The material may accentuate any pre-existing dermatitis condition. The material may cause skin irritation after prolonged or repeated exposure and may produce on contact skin redness, swelling, the production of vesicles, scaling and thickening of the skin.
There is some evidence to suggest that this material, if inhaled, can irritate the throat and lungs of some persons. Although inhalation is not thought to produce harmful effects, the material may still produce health damage, especially where pre-existing organ (e.g. liver, kidney) damage is evident. Present definitions of harmful or toxic substances are generally confined to doses producing mortality (death) rather than those producing morbidity (disease, ill- health). Not normally a hazard due to non-volatile nature of product. Inhalation of vapor may aggravate a pre-existing respiratory condition such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema. Respiratory sensitization may result in allergic/asthma like responses; from coughing and minor breathing difficulties to bronchitis with wheezing, gasping.
Skin contact with the material is more likely to cause a sensitization reaction in some persons compared to the general population.
Principal routes of exposure are usually by skin contact, eye contact with the material. Skin contact will result in rapid drying, bleaching, leading to chemicalburns on prolonged contact. Dilute forms of benzoyl peroxide are used as acne treatments, skin bleaches their use results in 1-2% cases showing allergic responses. Sensitisation may also occur, sensitised persons should be allocated to non- exposure areas.
