Gram negative rod or ovoid shaped bacillis. Some strains of the bacteria product a heat
stabile enterotoxin (ST). Y.pseudotuberculosis O- group one strains are most frequent
(over 90%) when identified using serologic identification of somatic antigens.

Considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial/industrial environments.
The dust may produce eye discomfort causing smarting, pain and redness.
INCUBATION PERIOD:
Principal routes of exposure are by skin contact, accidental injection (needle stick), ingestion and/or inhalation of aerosols. Symptoms and longer term effects are related to the pathology of the infection.
