The material can produce chemical burns following direct contactwith the skin. The material may cause severe skin irritation after prolonged or repeated exposure and may produce on contact skin redness, swelling, the production of vesicles, scaling and thickening of the skin. Repeated exposures may produce severe ulceration. Entry into the blood-stream, through, for example, cuts, abrasions or lesions, may produce systemic injury with harmful effects. Examine the skin prior to the use of the material and ensure that any external damage is suitably protected.
If inhaled, this material can irritate the throat andlungs of some persons. Persons with impaired respiratory function, airway diseases and conditions such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, may incur further disability if excessive concentrations of particulate are inhaled.
Principal routes of exposure are by accidental skin and eye contact andinhalation of generated dusts. Prolonged overdose of Vitamin A is associated with fatigue, irritability, loss of weight and appetite, mild fever, increased amounts of urine, enlarged liver and spleen, hair loss, bleeding lips, thickening of skin and yellow pigmentation. Bone and joint pain may occur, and growth may be permanently arrested in children. There may be birth defects and loss of bone mineral associated with carotenoids.
